Re: Will VA Tech ever get back to recruiting quarterbacks?

6'6" 235 isn't a bean pole. Sounds like a brute to me. He may be a good qb, I wasn't trying to claim he wasn't. He played QB 1 year in high school because he was the best athlete they had and that was the best way to make sure he got the ball. I assumed he was coming to VT as a TE just like where everyone else wanted him. To me it seems like more of the same problem that's been going on up there for a long time with qb's. Just putting athletes at the QB position and hoping something sticks. If I were a fan of them, I'd want them looking at a kid who's started for 3-4 years at the high school level and who's put up good stats against good competition in a pro-style offense. I'd also get the kids from the tidewater who are like Taylor who are scary good athletes playing the position. That way I think there's a lot better shot at having success at the position. Drew knows a lot more about the Hokies than I ever would think about knowing. I'm not trying to debate him about anything like that, I just can't believe he's still trying to sell himself on Tyrod being a good qb.

philip sims is a QB i thought VT really had a chance at, but it seemed they devoted everything to kevin newsome instead of going hard at sims.

im glad they didnt, sims may in two years, if he can establish himself ahead of jackson and mccarron, its doubtful he would pass jackson but maybe mccarrons and be a two year starter

oh and lung, its a lil off topic, but keenan allen made his choice a couple days ago, committed after seeing the LSU game. big pick up, two lock down corners already.

I mentioned that to Drew (I think) earlier and if I recall he said that were out on him early. Even if they were they should be on him every week until signing day trying to turn him. The best pro style qb to come out of VA in a long time and they give up on him by September of his SR year.

his arm is just great, he's really accurate and has good strength, will work well with the offensive system.
vt really really coveted newsome, but i dont think you should totally disregard a guy like sims.

we were out early on Sims because he didn't like our offense (surprise, surprise) and their coach is still mad we moved Greg Boone to TE from QB...a move that will make him some money in the NFL

we haven't landed an Oscar Smith kid since Greg Boone but that looks to change next year with Raysean Richardson

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Boone get some pre-season reps at QB when he first got to Tech, THEN they moved him to TE? I also remember them considering putting him on defense as well.
